CHRIS GOEBEL’S FASCINATION

Whatever’s wonderful at journey’s end appears here, particularly lighthouses visited during my travels to Maine (October, 2004 and January, 2005) and Nova Scotia, Canada in July 2005. All pictures are copyright Chris or Gerald Goebel. Scroll down to see it all, with glimpses of: Portland Head Light, Maine; Bug Light, Maine; Pemaquid Light, Maine; Nubble Light, Maine; Portsmouth Light, New Hampshire; Peggy's Cove Light, Nova Scotia; Nova Scotia (in general, and of a bald eagle and some pilot whales). Eventually, I will connect my gardening pages, but they're extensive. I haven't taken pictures of my gardens this year yet, because things are just starting to come back to life. Other things to expect in the future will be pictures of me, of course (people pages, I guess), my city, and Renaissance festivals and other fun things. I'm not a photographer and have never taken a class, but I am an artist and *hope* that's apparent here.

Bug Light, Portland, Maine(2005) It took quite some time to walk down these rocks to get to the light.

Portland Head, Portland, Maine (2005) The sign refers to a ship that sank next to Portland Head Light on Christmas Eve. The keepers were able to save the crew. Portland Head's beam shines out 70 miles.

Pemaquid Light, Maine (2005)-The State Quarter Lighthouse. Notice the choppy water. Yes, it was snowing when we took the pictures and it was awesome! Well, January in Maine ... The red things you see are rose hips.

Nubble Light, York, Maine (2005) Nubble Light sits on a huge nubble of rock, hence it's name. It's obvious why this lighthouse was necessary.
Stephen King's house in Maine (2004). Notice the gate.

These pictures are of Lubec, Maine (2004) and the world famous West Quoddy Lighthouse. Notice half of the lighthouse's stripes are painted gray with primer. This is my favorite lighthouse for many reasons, but particularly because of its color and isolation (I had to drive six hours to get there).

Portsmouth Light, Portsmouth, New Hampshire (2005) We had three pictures left and were on our way back to Manchester (N.H.) airport. I'm so glad we stopped.
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA (July, 2005)

Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. See the dot in the water? That’s my daring/crazy brother. He was nearly dashed on the rocks and it made his adventure all the more worthy.

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The falls were a hiking surprise and we took a whale watching boat out and spotted many pilot whales. You can’t see it here, but their heads are quite bulbous. The bald eagle was eating fish out of the lake and didn’t care much about us standing behind him. The final picture is of a lake, around which I'd hoped to spot moose. No such luck.

These were taken somewhere near Halifax, Nova Scotia. The pink line through the sun occurs when I'm sure I'm abusing the camera, but I think it's a cool accidental effect.
