DANIELLE ABBATIELLO’S BRIEF BIO:

I was born in a hospital in Jamaica, NY—the same one, in fact, that my father was born in years earlier, which makes sense, since he is my father. I currently work in educational administration at Stony Brook University. The bulk of my position requires me to deal with students who are accused of academic dishonesty, also known as plagiarism, or the ever popular cheating to the rest of the world—but I promise, my stories are all my own! Some people have described me as spoiled. I'd characterize myself as being misunderstood, with an affinity for getting what I want out of my parents. I am in the pursuit of happiness—which I would define as fairytale-like in scope—happily ever after, with all the trimmings.

PATRICK ANDREWS’ BRIEF BIO:

Patrick Andrews is the mostly unread, but critically loved author of works such as "Being & Nothingness: How to Tell Them Apart" and the well ignored "Organic and Still Brilliant—Supermarket Zen Exercises for Grocers."

The close to deranged Mr. Andrews lives in
New Orleans and is given to this and that, although sometimes in the other order. He has also been spotted ignoring ecological disasters, beating metaphors with personified nouns and waiting for something to happen.

With stunning good looks accompanied by wit and grace, he’s the sort of man you would love to bring to an exclusive Upper-Manhattan dinner party, if only for the inappropriate remarks he would make during the après-dinner drinks.

PA is also a musician and you can hear his music at: http://www.nolabands.com/jamroom/bands/131/music.php

BRIAN ASHENFELTER’S BIO:

I go to Tri State University, so that makes me a Thunder . . . I guess? And if nothing else, this should be a prime example of why Engineers should leave writing to the professionals. Generally, I just write songs for my girlfriend, but this works too.  But sometimes, I let my roommate use them to pick up chicks also.

Tri State is in Angola, IN and guess what? There's nothing to do here. Some would argue that this is the number one drinking university per capita in the nation. That pretty much leaves sober people like me to do stuff like this. Fun times, ah.

JON BERAHYA’S BRIEF BIO:

Jon Berahya is a comedian/writer/artist living in Lexington, Kentucky, with bipolar disorder and his parents, who feed him well.  He would like to thank Dr. Shelton for all the medication samples and to the 2003 British Airways flight crews for providing him with safe passage to foreign lands and drinks that he is no longer allowed to partake of.

TIM BRUDEREK'S BRIEF BIO:

I started writing poetry when I was in the womb. I didn't really have fingers yet, but it was clear that I was hyper-sensitive to my surroundings, even back then. Most of the poems did center around themes of water and claustrophobia, but at least it was a start.

When I was born and the doctor slapped me on the bum, I realized then and there that the world was out to get me. I mean the first thing I saw when my eyes opened were bright lights, large people with sharp things pointed at me and a woman screaming bloody murder! Well, as you can imagine, I was inspired.

Fast forward 23 years, and here I am, still writing poetry today. I have expanded my themes a bit since the beginning, as you can see from these poems. Yes, I know, some of them are still about water, but you can't really escape the past, can you?

If you like what you've read here, please contact me at willymiller02@yahoo.com. I do not yet have a website because technology and I do not see eye to eye, but you can count on me to write you back at lightening speed. Thank you for reading!

LA VONNE NATASHA CAESAR’S BIO:

As a young writer, I know that I am not alone in
suspecting that many poets today are eventually (and
repeatedly) published because of their impressive
autobiographical lists of experiences (as opposed
to . . . well, you know . . . ability and stuff . . .).  The
reason we all love dear Humdinger is because they
prefer to inform us of far more interesting life
details—like psychotic quilting experiences . . . as
opposed to long lists of ivy league schools. If you
must know, I've never had a psychotic quilting
experience . . . but I was raised in a strange cult by two
delightfully psychotic geniuses. So, I guess that
explains why I am a poet! But you'll have to wait a
few years for the autobiography if you want to know
more! :)

ROB CARNEY’S BRIEF BIO:

Rob Carney just moved back from sunny California to Boston in November, and in celebration of his horrible timing, he and his girlfriend have been sick for about 90 days. He often laments that he wore shorts and sandals every day for 16 months straight, usually as he put on boots and gloves and a hat. His goal is to acquire a job that requires writing funny e-mails to his friends and pays him $150,000 a year. He played with blogspot for about a week and usually ignores it at:

LES COMBS’ BRIEF BIO:

Les is a retiree living in Arkansas. After years of unrequited labor upon golf courses and their adjacent woods, fields and creeks in three states, he turned in his putter for the pen. Writing offers him similar frustrations as golf without having to pick weed seeds and burrs from his clothing after each session. A sampling of his short fiction is available at the following addresses:

DAVID R. CAUDELL’S BIO:

I’m a typical twenty-four year old guy from a small southern Indiana town called Scottsburg, which is about thirty miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.

One of my passions is writing kid’s stories/poems. I’ve been writing them for about a year now. I guess this hobby emerged due to my job. I’m a teacher’s assistant at a small middle school, where I help teach special education. I love my job. There, I get a chance to be a child everyday. Just seeing those kids smile, learn, and love brings so much joy to my life.

Humor also plays a big part in my life. It’s not uncommon to see my friends and co-workers make a choir into play. Just like my life, you will find tons of childlike and pre-teen humor in my writing.

With that, I hope you enjoy my poem. Christmas has always had a special place in mine and my family’s hearts. I think you can see some heart into the rhythms, if you look past all the juvenile humor.

AKIL DRAYTON’S BIO:

I am a young entrepreneur in the telecom field at the moment. I am a father to a very beautiful and intelligent 4 year old daughter, who I love so. I love to write and since I was turned to it by a 7th grade teacher who read through one of my notebooks and started to make me take notice that my writing was actually credible. I am in the process of collecting current pieces that are written from daily experiences or random thoughts that have been saved and reviewed, be it from the daily stress of work, or a simple smile you noticed from a beautiful woman. I am a very fun loving and comedic character; all who come in contact with me often feel an instant connection and friendship for a long time.

  MARGARET FIELAND’S BRIEF BIO:

I am a computer software engineer by profession and a musician and writer by avocation. I play the flute and the piccolo and belong to a marching band.  My home is graced by several poodles that will almost always start to howl when I practice my piccolo, thus forcing me to practice in the garage. As you might gather from the poem below, I am both a poor sleeper and a coffee drinker.

CHRIS GOEBEL’S BRIEF BIO:

I hid from my high school yearbook. They caught me once, I think, maybe twice, but I frequently played hide and seek in my youth. When camping, I hid so well and long that everyone thought me dead, seriously maimed at least. I found the subject so interesting that I attempted to learn how to become invisible, as actors have done for espionage roles. Then, I learned that OTHER PEOPLE are walking around invisible! When you become invisible, then you somehow learn to see people from China walking across your room in the middle of the night. I couldn’t do it. Who wants people coming in their room unannounced? They say they can’t see you—right!

THOMAS E. JORDON’S BRIEF BIO:

I am a 45-year old freelance writer based in Northwest Arkansas. I have been through the Creative Writing Program at the University of Arkansas (where my BA in History is from) at the undergraduate level. Often William Harrison (the original Rollerball, Mountains on the Moon) would use my writing as that week’s example of what could be made just a little better with a little push over the top. I like to think I’m finally the writer he hoped I’d turn out to be by now.

I have written eight full-length screenplays and as many more short screenplays. One of my short screenplays, Loose End, is being included in the upcoming feature What is Love (http://love.mullrahe.com/) by MullRahe Productions (http://www.mullrahe.com/). Some of my recent work-for-hire assignments include creating a short video aimed at Management professionals at all levels and a spec script for a documentary on the history of the cross. I have also worked with a team of writers on a project to create a spec television series pilot, which went nowhere. I have won awards for both my short fiction and non-fiction. Most recently, my short story Last Words was published by the e.magazine Thirst for Fire (http://www.thirstforfire.com). My non-fiction has been seen in national publications. I am a contributor to Carol Duboc’s new WineandMusic.com project (http://wineandmusic.com/), an e.magazine on wine and music around the world. And finally, I work as an internet researcher for Hamilton’s Hollywood Top 30 (http://www.radioexpress.com/public/weekly_top30.html), a nationally syndicated radio program.

STAN KRAJEWSKI’S BRIEF BIO:

Born in New York, I quickly had passion that came alive in all that I do, singing in chorus all through grade school, as well as art classes, plays, and photography. It was at twelve years old that I discovered what was to become my rite of passage into the world of creative paths that have opened up in my life. Going up into the attic one day, I found my mother’s high school year book. Upon opening the pages, I stopped at “Aspirations.”  “Singer and Actress” was my mom’s passion, and although it was not lived in the sense in which we have always followed, it was transformed in such a way that delivered her spirit to the world. With 6 children to raise, Margaret Keddy Woll would belt out a tune that engulfed the entire world. It was years later that what I had found was that rite of passage for my own life. What was not used was passed on, and with that, I gratefully share this with the world with honor and passion. May you find all what I do, all that I write, and all that I bring forward live with that seed that was passed
on so long ago.

Stan Krajewski’s a photographer as well as poet. You can view his photography at:

STEPHANIE LAW’S BRIEF BIO:

Stephanie lives out of country, out planet, out of universe. She neither endorses nor condones alien abductions, UFO sightings, or hauntings. On a clear night, she flies over the moon and turns into a very nice wolf.

ANGEL LOGAN’S BIO #2:

Angel Logan has been writing for 24 years, from poetry to short stories to professional letters to speeches—for anyone that asks for her assistance. In fact, Angel has also written a quote for a greeting card company out of California, called Kate Harper Designs. The quote needed to reflect edgy, real life humor and it also explains Angel too: "I only do yoga, so I can polish my toenails."

Anyone that knows Angel, knows that she isn't a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl. She is a pre-Madonna type almost always in heels and a dress and would rather exercise her mind than stand on her head. But everyone appreciates that about her and accepts her just as she is, as she accepts everyone in her life.

Angel's first priority is to sell several books, to touch the hearts of her readers and help them remember that no matter what, there is always hope. However, she would also like to sell enough books, to buy her dreamhouse for her and her husband. It isn't a mansion nor is it a cottage, but it will cost a lot of books. This house is worth it though, because it is the perfect home to make everlasting memories and write many more books, which Angel intends to do.

Regardless of her journey or what she writes, Angel wants to give her readers a vision into the window of life, to help them find their wings to fly!

MARK McKENZIE’S BRIEF BIO:

From an early age my parents have encouraged me to achieve my dreams. Most people would describe me as a shy, quick-witted person. With that type of personality a unique sense of comedy is born. I am the type of person that comes up with crazy schemes and wonders what would happen if I actually performed the acts. Most people like me because I’m polite and rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. As much as I like those things, I really like to help people in need. I’m part of a service organization at my school. I also like to write, however, I hate to read. Most ideas in my writings come from my mind, TV, or my life. I hope you like my stream of consciousness.

JON MILLER’S BIO:

Dragged kicking and screaming from the succulent bosom of Western Pennsylvania by an attraction to flashing lights, Jonathan Miller currently resides in Los Angeles for no particular reason. Although he desperately wishes to someday sell a screenplay, he'd be happy with a job that paid him enough to both eat and drink; as a graduate of USC's acclaimed Master's of Professional Writing program, he's not holding his breath. His current home is a wee apartment shared with his fiancé and the dumbest cat alive.

ALEXAE NANDI’S BRIEF BIO:

Alexae Nandi was hatched from an unknown, venomous serpent. He slithered and hissed his way through the darkened hallways of California high schools into the big, wide open mouth of the real world and quickly assimilated by training on the flying trapeze, growing a tail and squawking "Caw! Caw!" at all passing automobiles. He makes his money snapping antennae from ants and selling them to Rival anthills as exotic, imported chopsticks.

LOUISE NORLIE’S BRIEF BIO:

When Louise Norlie is not working full time or playing the piano, she is probably writing. She'd like to do all three at once if she could. She has a rare bone disorder known by a convoluted Latin name and is desperately seeking a publisher for her novel on growing up with a disability. Her stories have appeared in many prominent disability publications and are upcoming on the international publication Disability Studies Quarterly. She also writes fiction in many other genres, ranging from the absurdly comic, to the gory, to the tragic and can be found at all hours in a state of frenzied inspiration. Links to her online publications can be found here:

KATRINA PIERSON’S BRIEF BIO:

Katrina Pierson is still getting used to her new last name. In July of 2005, she was married on the beach in Clearwater, Florida, to the person who appreciates her writing the most, her love of 5 years, John. They live together in central Minnesota in a house only fit for Tiny Tim (if you've seen the Geico commercial you'd understand). They have also crammed a parakeet, lizard, and a stuck-up Siberian cat named Isabelle in the house with them. Katrina has been a writer since she learned the alphabet.

She spends her free days lounging in her popasan with her HP laptop balanced perfectly on her crossed legs, paging through the free ads on craigslist. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in English at St. Cloud State University and hopes to go on to work as an editor, publisher, or literary agent. She loves visiting big cities, going to zoos, and licking Cheetos cheese off her fingertips (as well as writing the occasional poem). She has been published in two other online journals. You can e-mail your thoughts to her at: trinapierson@gmail.com  Katrina Pierson’s work can be found at:

R S Prasanna’s Brief Bio:

Born thinking I was the only one with something behind my eyes.

I saw, I heard... but I also saw and heard the "I" at a real early age. Even when I was little more than a foot-and-half long, I used to think I am the "Gifted One"... the One who could stand away from life, observe it, contemplate it ... and be amused by the millions and millions of automated humans going through the motions of life. Of course I did not know then that every Tom, Dick and Harry thought so too.

And that was good. Never liked being bunched with them .

Anyway, this gave me a whole new world view, which I explored in front of the mirror, behind homemade grease paint. Entertained guests with my own vaudeville acts. This was at age Nine.

Moved on to putting up skits while in Middle school. Also started writing the smallest of small stories.

I remember reading R K Narayan's "Swami and friends" and thinking ... "Hey, I should do that! The words are there, and there's the pen and paper—I just get one on the other—and tha's it!"

Thus started my writing journey at age Thirteen. Wrote an epic 200-word masterpiece.

My saving grace: I promptly sent it to the bin.

"This is no R K Narayan, dammit! I wonder why."

To this day, I wonder.

And that, in all honesty, is my only weapon: my wonder.

My acting improved, so did my realisation that acting was "not all." So I attempted direction. And screenwriting.

My bin kept getting fuller by the day.

Well, in a few months from now, I should be taking up an unofficial open invitation to one of the most reputed Film Schools in India. They saw my award winning Short Film.

So, at age 22, what am I?

Like one of my characters in one of my million "unwritten" screenplay says to his lady, "I am a promise!"

At age 30, I shall know if I have kept it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a part of the professional Theatre circuit here in my city, Chennai, India and will be making my directorial debut on stage, mid 2006. My favorite authors are Jeffrey Archer and R K Narayan. My God in songwriting is Tim Rice. I am currently trying to learn from Arthur Miller a tiny bit, at least how in the world he writes those plays of his! I am a drooling "groupie" of Broadway, even though I have just heard of it—it is for me, sitting miles away, a legend, a distant Fairyland! I am a great admirer of Ayn Rand.

JOSE RIVERA’S BRIEF BIO:

Jose Rivera grew up in Puerto Rico and he would love to go back and live in Old San Juan. He's married to another writer, Nanette Rayman, where they live in New York City very happily. He will also be published in Eclectica and Poesia in 2006. His favorite shows are Law and Order and Forensic Files. He loves Nanette more than life.

DANIEL ROBINSON’S BRIEF BIO:

I am a twenty old writer and game programmer. I am surrounded by mountains and snow covered trees in upstate New York! I spend most of my time on a PlayStation playing games, just wasting my poor excuse of a life away. In my spare time, I like to make computer games and write scripts. I have written nine books in three years from military to horror. Including Magic books which can be bought through this link.

          http://www.lulu.com/danielrobinson

But for real, I do enjoy writing. I have a wonderful fiancé who has supported me in everything I have done! I have made a couple of games which can be found at www.rottenzombie.com  I also have a few sim movies made that I have written.

They are: House Of Curse and The Video Game. Here is where the movies are:

ROXANNA RUSSELL’S BRIEF BIO:

I was born. I grew up. I went to college. I got a degree. I like to write. I wrote a book called The Letter. See http://www.geocities.com/rdr1124/home.html for excerpts. It can be purchased at your book retailer of choice. I've written four other books. None of those have been published . . . yet. I work. I don't like my job. Novel concept, I know. I like movies. Some favorites are "Flirting with Disaster," "Amelie," and anything by Wes Anderson. I'm single. I like being single. This apparently makes me irresistible. Someday, maybe I won't be single. I don't want kids—pets are OK. Someday, maybe I'll have a better job. Someday, maybe I'll make enough money from writing so I can retire from doing actual work. Someday, I'll be dead. Though I'd prefer that to be later rather than sooner. The end.

MEGAN SCHINDLER’S BRIEF BIO:

Megan Schindler is an "emerging"—i.e., virtually unpublished—writer of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, humor, screenplays—heck, whatever they'll take. A professional student at the University of Southern California, she suffers in Los Angeles with her 17-pound cat, Meatball.

KATIE SCHWARTZ’S BRIEF BIO:

Katie Schwartz loves food. She can eat anyone under the table. She'd take an eighth of sour cream over a 5th of vodka any day. When Katie isn't eating, or planning to eat, she's writing comedy, obsessing over something inane or second guessing herself, but that's just for kicks.

Katie is residing in
Los Angeles amongst contagious amounts of silicone and super self loving folks. She longs to go home to New York City
, and she will soon. But just like Captain Kirk had a mission, so does she.

Katie is so not third person savvy and she's not sure what else she should say about herself. So, read Katie's work! And if you want to know more about Katie, email Katie:

katiegirl@gmail.com

BIO FOR MICHELE A. SCIROCCO:

Michele lives in Weehawken New Jersey with her husband and their two dogs Harlee and Neo. Michele, Harlee, and Neo can be reached at: michelescirocco@hotmail.com.

THOMAS W. SYPEK’S BRIEF BIO:

I was born, or should I say, created by Anna Muggridge (my mother) and Adolph Sypek, (my biological father, who I never knew). I was raised by a loving stepfather, Tom Muggridge, in a three story house in South Boston, Massachusetts. I had three brothers and three sisters, all halves. No, they weren’t split in halves; they were just half sisters and brothers. My life growing up reads like a soap opera. I wrote a play about it called, of all things, “Family.” My education, such as it was, was uninspiring and uneventful. “I came. I saw. I didn’t conquer.”

I have tried everything, and I mean, everything, from acting, writing, directing, factory working, and homosexuality, which I found I was very good at. I have learned to live this and that and I am, at the ripe old age of sixty-seven, a very talented and gifted man. Life hasn’t always been good, but it has always been a laugh riot. I hope you enjoy my story.

D.W.THORNTON'S BRIEF BIO:

My words are the fame that create my identity and with that I shall cease!

KEVIN CURTIS BARR’S BRIEF AND BIZARRE BIO:

I am an illustrator and graphic artist and was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Before I started attending "The College of Art Advertising," located in Cincinnati, I created "King Merlin And The Rapp Lords." The first book has been placed in its entirety on my website:

www.DigitalConsciousness.com

(search for artist Kevin Curtis Barr)

In the near future, I plan on creating some new poetry and growing in my skills as an illustrator and graphic artist. From time to time, I also write song lyrics. I wrote songs before poetry, tried my amateur hand at photography and at being a budding artist. I’m one who hopes that "King Merlin And The Rapp Lords," will someday be a household name, seen along with the likes of Dolly Parton and "Queen Bee," Lil' Kim (a whole other story).

My biggest muse has been singer Chaka Khan; she seems to hold a certain power over me still. Since I’m an artist who does whatever he feels like doing, ahead of learning where all the rules apply many times, I feel that in the end, this may serve to have been my biggest asset during the whole of my somewhat off-centered human existence.

DAN BERTHIAUME’S BIO #3:

Inspired by the late, great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson,
Dan Berthiaume spends most of his time hunkered down
in a fortified compound in northeastern Massachusetts,
waiting to be discovered by a publisher and
supplementing his limited income as a fiction writer
by editing a business magazine.

ALMA BOND’S BRIEF BIO:

Alma Bond first became a published author when she was

69 years old. Since then she has had 11 books published,

including The Autobiography of Maria Callas, a Novel,

Tales of Psychology: Short Stories to Make You Wise,

and Who Killed Virginia Woolf, a Psychobiography. Her

latest book, Camille Claudel, a Novel, is currently in

JENNA BURDETT’S BRIEF BIO:

I'm 13-years-old and the fifth child of seven children ranging in age from 30 to 8. Our house is very BIG and right now my Dad is adding on two bedrooms and a BIG living room.

Before living in this BIG house, my whole family of nine lived in a three bed, one bath. (Imagine trying to brush your teeth with four other people in the bathroom!). Now we live in a five bed, two-and-a-halfbath, plus an apartment for my Grandma. Of course, we usually need the room. Especially when my brother decides to bring home his soccer team from college. Or when my sister's bridesmaids all come and stay with us while we're getting ready for the wedding. We are never bored at our house.

ARTHUR CAREY'S BRIEF BIO:

Arthur Carey is a former newspaper reporter and journalism instructor who gave up frozen toes in Michigan for earthquake tremors in California. When not hunched over a keyboard, he deals with squirrels raiding his bird feeders and the possum burrowing under his backyard fence.

DOMINICK CASCIATO’S BRIEF BIO:

I am a very interesting twelve-year-old because I have already won three essay contests and one of them had a very odd story. In my essays, I love to include my family because they are a big part of my life. What makes some of my stories quite interesting is that they are hard to believe.

For an example, when my family would take my brother and me up to Disney, we would usually ride in strollers. But as we grew up, my brother grew out of one and I was still being pushed around in it. So, one day as we were strolling around one of Disney’s theme parks, a Disney cast member that was dressed up as a gang member confronted me and said, “Aren’t you a little to old to be pushed around in that thing?”

At that time, there was a small crowed gathered around that saw as I replied, “How did you get that weird job? Did you not go to college?”

Once those words came out, the man quickly stopped talking and turned around to find the next victim of his sick sense of humor.

But before I knew it, we went back to that same park one year later and he was still there. So, I went over to him and asked, “Do you remember me?”

And he replied, “Yeah, you’re that kid who was still in your stroller when you were eight years old!”

A little angered I replied, “Oh! And you still have the same job!”

That was a brief summary of one of my many hilarious moments in my life. Sadly, I believe that man is still working there, but lucky for me, I am out of my stroller and walking like an average kid.

Most of my essays are not posted on the Internet. But the one that was on the Internet was at writersdigest.com assignment#53 for kids.

OSCAR CINTRONMARINA’S BIO:

I was born in a cave and from it I crawled with a blind eye. I crawled for what seemed like eons. One momentous day out of sheer boredom when life seemed to have left me, I picked up a book and a ray of light penetrated the darkness in my clouded mind.

The words rushed in and out like torrents of floodwaters and I felt alive as if life had suddenly entered my body and innumerable words flowed from my pencil and pen without the slightest effort.

Creations of thought proved too much to contain. They had to be told, annotated, or related. And so I write when I am assailed by the writer's touch, when I feel that my thoughts must be given more time on paper so that they may mature, before they wisp away on the speeding highway in my mind.

On a bean bag my hungry mind began to rage; only sixteen, I had to learn to control my newfound power which cried out for unfettered release for what had lain dormant for so long.

That's how it happened in a "hidden in the words" sort of way.  From childhood, monsters, the spooky, the macabre, the horror, and the strange have drawn me into their convoluted world like a magnetic web—infected by the unnatural virus.

LIZ DONOVAN’S BRIEF BIO:

I have no friends.
I like little dogs in tiaras.
Do these two correlate? You decide.

23, Vegan, embarrassed to be an American and have way too much time on my hands.

SARAH EL EBIARY’S BIO #2:

Sarah El Ebiary got the inspiration to write "Rock Dreams" after years of experience as a concert promoter in the Pacific Northwest. A radio DJ by day and a busy business woman by night, Sarah spent most of college years coming up with ways not to ever spend money on a CD or concert ticket again. Not only has she worked with tons of musicians & venues, she was by far one of the only females in the backstage area who WASN'T sleeping with the band. She was also easy to spot as the 5 foot 2 inch tall, roadie-chick hauling gear before and after the show. While her concert days have been put on hold, Sarah has been busy preparing for law school in which she hopes to one day become an entertainment/ media lawyer, a career that will allow her to stay involved with the music industry without having to carry sound equipment up a flight of stairs.

A. Nan Emyss is currently attempting to make up for five years of lost time and losing more time in the process. She has published two previous poems and is working on some art and more literature.

CHRIS GOEBEL’S BRIEF BIO:

Chris Goebel has always been a writer and poet. In elementary school, Chris created a magazine (which now smells terrible and looks funny). In middle school, Chris worked on a children’s book, wrote numerous song lyrics and began a novel that never got finished (about the Great Pyramid, because it looks cool, not because Chris would ever visit a place as hot as Egypt). Chris won a DAR essay contest (a patriotic thing, and much of Chris’ novels have a patriotic streak, not streaker). During high school, Chris wrote crap about and to the opposite sex.

Why Chris started writing is for probably the same reason that most kids write: teachers make them. Much as we might’ve hated those termagants, something about their mind torture converted into useful recreation—for some of us. Others are terribly frightened by a blank piece of paper and sweat when asked to write an essay. Some people claim that’s because of the dreaded red ink marks that littered our error-ridden papers. Come on, what they’re really afraid of is the grade, not the stupid red ink!

Chris’ first published works were poems and that is where mistakes became great teachers: don’t publish things you’ll hate later. How one misspelling practically rots Chris’ brain (imagine rotten cauliflower) when rereading it! After a while, the anthology submissions kept getting accepted and Chris forgot who and how many and when. But still, Chris publishes poetry/short stories and now this E-zine and Jack of Genre Newsletter for Writers and more to come (including several completed novels).

ERIC HAUENSTEIN’S BIO:

Eric grew up in Charlton, New York, where he developed a deep appreciation for cows. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York (where it was cold much of the time) and did graduate study in philosophy and literature at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio (where it was flat much of the time). He has worked as an English Teacher, a Lieutenant in the Air Force, done project engineering, technical writing, labor, counseling, tutoring in writing and math, and has been a newspaper writer and editor. His publications include several technical manuals, newspaper articles, an essay, two short stories and now—a poem. Eric has participated in numerous creative writing classes, seminars and workshops. He continues to be a student, and earnestly hopes he will always remain one.

His interests include watching Kate do things, hiking, tennis, running, mysticism, guitar, singing, chess, mythology, meditation and coed naked rugby.

Leigh Kunkel’s Bio:

Leigh was born near L.A. to non-denominational parents. Soon after she was born, her Catholic grandmother and great aunts, who happened to be nuns, baptized her Catholic in the sink while her parents were at the movies.

Despite her non-Catholicnicity, she attended Jesuit high school, where she went to confession once to see what it was like. The priest called her “immature” and she never went back. After high school, she attended
Columbia University in New York for approximately three months before she realized that she never, EVER wanted to go back. She spent the next semester in Guatemala, volunteering at a medical clinic as a translator, and in Santiago
at a language school.

She later moved to
London, where she now lives in an apartment near Covent Gardens
with her dog. She makes her living by doing freelance writing and working in an independent clothing store down the street.

She is also nineteen, and the entire last paragraph is just what she hopes her life will turn out to be. The rest is true.

KATIE MCCLENDON’S BIO:

Katie McClendon awoke one day to find that words had been built up around her in the shape of an oval surrounding her with a pliable reliability. She had one window with which to look out at the world and a gallon of stars to make wishes upon. Every night, she would pick one star from the gallon jug she carried on her hip and she would lay it on her palm, gently blowing it from her hand and out of the window to join the world. She still has half a gallon left and is happy to share . . . No fame, no fortune, and very few plans for the future; she takes it all one minute at a time which means that she quite often gets fired from corporate jobs.

BILL PERRYMAN’S BRIEF BIO:

At the tender age of 19, I moved from crayon to pencil and pen to scribble my pastel prose to paper. To paraphrase the great Groucho, " Any magazine that would publish my work, I do not wish to be a contributor to. "

This is the exception.

RAPHAEL RABALAIS’S BIO:

Raphael Rabalais’s literary life began at the tender age of 4 when he picked up Meet George Washington and suddenly realized that all of those letters of the alphabet that he knew added up to interesting words like “Delaware,” “Yorktown,” and “Germans” (as in revolutionary war mercenaries, pronounced with a hard “G,” obviously). It was a portentous beginning for young Raphael insofar as he spent the better part of the next 21 years reading and writing about scholarly yet bone-dry subjects. The Argentine economic reforms of the 1990’s, the finer points of behavior training in adolescent female rats, and the Garden City movement in early 20th century England all stand out as shining examples of the irresistibly sexy topics that Raphael tackled in written form.

However, the combination of too much time on his hands during his graduate school years and the sobering effects of a failed relationship opened his mind to the power of an empty, marble bound notebook and a brain—caged by the strictures of academia—crying out for a modicum of creative expression. Since then, Raphael has grown a beard and discovered the singular beauty of writing about love gained, love lost, love desired, love reminisced, and his all-consuming fascination with the female species. He has also discovered the beauty of bad language—his placid, well mannered demeanor masking an internal monologue replete with Carlin’s Seven Dirty Words.

As a (nearly) lifelong resident of New Orleans, Raphael has newfound respect for the Dutch, for civil engineering students who actually pay attention during class, and for the power of the government to $%&*! you over. He also has developed a strong distaste for names beginning with “K” and ending with “A.” Nevertheless, as a practicing urban planner (when not putting pen to said marble bound notebook), Raphael is optimistic that a more beautiful, sustainable, more alluring, more poetic New Orleans may yet rise from its waterlogged present. Aside from reveling in his own creative energy and general dorkiness, Raphael finds inspiration in the music of Pearl Jam, the films of Cameron Crowe, the words of Flannery O’Conner, and, of course, the restorative power of long walks on the beach.

DANIELLA REGENCIA’S BRIEF BIO:

My life story is rather simple with a few spikes every now and then, similar to, say, the EKG monitor of a person having a heart attack. I'm 17 years old and a junior in high school. I, perhaps, have too much more work than is mentally healthy, but I find time to do things that I enjoy, even if it means sacrificing physics homework. My favorite things to do are watching movies (I love the classics), watching TiVo, wandering around the Internet looking for new and exciting things, and playing with Photoshop. I suppose that's not that bizarre, but then again, the most bizarre thing about me isn't all that bizarre at all, well, maybe they are, but they're nothing short of extremely creepy and something that I, perhaps, wouldn't want the world outside of my laptop to know about. Just kidding?

A Brief History of Duncan Sadat Robertson:

I wish I could meet all of you, I find readers to be very insightful whether or not they’ve enjoyed the poem I’ve written. I know I crave writers that have been through pain and conquered pride. I can’t say I count myself as one as such, but I am young, just a smidge over 23, and still learning.

I enjoy travel more than anything. I find my dreams to be filled with nomads. I enjoy driving west and south. North and east feel cold. I fly in airplanes, drink coffee, beer, wine and whiskey (not together), surf waves on Nordic tugs to an island near Canada, where I have a home, and enjoy taking the Greyhound bus. In between, I try to engage myself in my surroundings by playing Ultimate Frisbee, and though I have been playing for 11 years, I am not very good.

My friend Matt wrote a song with me in it. He said I lead a revolution. It was news to me.

I have built houses, learned the art of a barista, survived a hurricane and 7 earthquakes, written 2 theses, kissed, loved, left, regretted, danced naked to the Rolling Stones, rolled cigarettes in Paris, fallen in love, and forgiven. I’m most proud of that last one.

Currently, I see the world from a basement in Portland, OR. On sunny afternoons, I shoot cans with a Red Ryder in the backyard.

Editor’s Note: Duncan, you’ll shoot your eye out!

SUE SCHERZINGER’S BRIEF BIO:

Sue Scherzinger has a degree in psychology and is a published author; so of course, she works as a survey technician for the city. She has had a short story published in Dream Network magazine, one featured on CBC Radio's Point North Northern Writer's Series and recently one published in Your Scrivener's Press anthology, Outcrops. She has two teenage children, a pre-teen, an overweight cat and a musician for a husband, so craziness is commonplace at home.

BIO FOR MICHELE A. SCIROCCO:

Michele lives in Weehawken New Jersey with her husband and their two dogs Harlee and Neo. VIJAY VIJAYEE'S BRIEF BIO:

I was born on September 20, 1939 in India and am now sixty-six years old. My mother died when I was a child of one and half years and I was brought up by a widow lady in our family.

My qualifications are a M.A. (Masters degree in Politics) and professional qualifications of C.A.I.I.B (the highest qualification related to Banking in India). I did service in one of the top Banks for nearly 42 years. Now I have retired from Bank Service and enjoying my retired life.

I love nature’s manifestations and speak against the forces that are on purpose, bent upon to destroy the same for vested benefits.

My uncle was a renowned poet of Punjab State. In a way, poetry is in my blood. I have been writing poems since my childhood. Initially, I wrote in Hindi

(a language prevalent in the Northern part of India), but later on, I switched over to English, as I felt myself comfortable in explaining and furnishing expression to my thoughts, views and emotions in this language.

I have in addition written many articles on Politics and Globalization of World Economy, Human Evolution and the compulsion of living that is forced on us.

I am a married person blessed with two married daughters.

BEN WAUMETT’S BIO:

About me . . . I grew up last Tuesday and took a job as mascot for a minor league hockey team, The West Oak Bumblebees, but was fired for lewd conduct (fondling backstops) and other traits of incompetence. I then tried to join the Army, but married a millionairess instead who bought me a scale model of the Panama Canal, but then left me to study monkeys in Costa Rica. At that point, I took the name 'Schmelling,' but soon gave it back. Now I write stories to spite my sister.

REMONA W. WINSTON’S BRIEF BIO:

I love writing. I often wake up with poetry, prose, stories, rhymes, and lyrics in my head and I can just sit down to my computer and let it flow. It is a gift that I have and I am thankful for it. I also am able to read material that is upside down and a rather fast rate. I enjoy typing also.

NOVEMBER 2005

CARMEN ADAMUCCI JR’S BIO:

The year Carmen was born his father planted seventy acres of peach tress on their small farm in southern New Jersey. Eighteen years later, the trees were pulled from the earth and Carmen was uprooted as well—thrown into adulthood completely unprepared. Although a new orchard was quickly established, Carmen soon realized that he was a horrible farmer.

In the years that followed Carmen found out that he was also a horrible car salesman, financial consultant, Navy sailor, factory supervisor, telephone answerer, bartender, waiter, junk mail printer and telemarketer. He has finally found a home outside the confines of the farm that he once loved. Now, as an undergraduate English major at Rutgers University, he spends most of his time reading novels and working on short stories. He’s scheduled to obtain his BA in January of 2007 and plans on pursuing an MFA in creative writing.

Carmen is one year married and his wife is a psychotherapist. Everyone that knows them assumes he was once a patient of hers. They have two dogs. One is a Boxer named Rocky and the other is a Lahsa named Harry.

DAN BERTHIAUME’S BIO2:

Dan Berthiaume is a business journalist who lives with his wife Julie in Massachusetts. He has had short fiction appear in Meniscus Magazine, Modern Drunkard, and e-clips. His novella IPO was a finalist in the 2004 Malahat Review Novella Contest. He has seen enough crazy behavior in the world of business to inspire years of fiction.

MARK BLICKLEY'S BIO:

SEE OCTOBER BELOW

SARAH EL EBIARY’S BIO:

Sarah El Ebiary recently graduated from Oregon State University, where she designed her own major in Mass Media Communication. But since her diploma technically says “Liberal Studies,” she can pretty much tell people that she has a degree in whatever she wants. While currently cramming for the most evil entrance exam ever created (the LSATs) and struggling to narrow down her choice of law schools to under twelve, Sarah enjoys ripping off the music industry on a number of peer-to-peer sharing programs. On second thought, for legal purposes nix that part about ripping off the music industry. You won’t ever find her on Soulseek (screen-name: Sarahfenix), so don’t even try looking.

CHRIS GOEBEL’S BIO 3:

I have a dry sense of humor that some people don’t get. As a result, I dedicate whole days to making jokes that sometimes, no one laughs at. Maybe the dufus bird on the telephone line laughs at them, but who speaks bird anymore? I don’t see any raised hands . . .

Therefore, I dream of discovering a book that teaches the secrets of humor for all (and not just those who adore Southern sarcasm) and an infallible way to be funny all of the time. Er, must of the time. Because to tell jokes that no one gets is like walking down the street, stubbing your bare toe and sticking it in your mouth. Yeah, that’s the ticket . . .

Oh, and I almost forgot! I’ve made a new discovery: SALONPAS. Japanese . . . They are camphor/menthol adhesive pads that you peel off and stick anywhere you like, hopefully a place that wouldn’t hurt if you doused it with Ben Gay or Tiger Balm. The great thing is that they give you 40, so you can mummify yourself with camphor/menthol adhesive pads. Then go to the library and sit next to someone and watch his or her nostrils flare. Actually, they’re not that potent smelling, but SALONPAS, an ancient remedy I got from my ex-military-knows-pain-like-his-back-hand brother, annihilate muscular pain. Normally, when I spend all afternoon and night working on a new edition of Humdinger, my shoulders and neck feel like they’re super glued straight. The pain radiates deep. However, with SALONPAS, November’s Humdinger came almost painlessly and I’m only down about 8. Beware though. Leave SALONPAS on for more than 8 hours and they’ll bake you like a macadamia nut cookie on a Texas sidewalk in summer. I’ve had them up to 8 hours with no problems, but I’ve heard firsthand that they will get you and you will not escape their wrath if you break the rules; they will take you downtown to Chinatown. Otherwise, join the SALONPAS bandwagon and get 40 strips at your local drugstore (not the one where people are standing at the street corner, but the Place) for under $3.

RANDY LANE’S BIO:

My name is Edward Lane, but everyone calls me Randy. I live in a very small town and when I say small, I mean the population is around 500.  As you can imagine, there isn’t much to do here so I end up watching the weeds grow and write a lot.  I also am a musician so I serenade the weeds a lot too, maybe that’s why they grow so well. I’ve taken pictures of myself with the weeds and plants, I guess because I believe that a lot of plants are better than some people. So I’ve also enclosed one of my special pictures so you can see how I treat my plants and how they treat me, what beautiful hair, Ha Ha.

TIM LI’S BIO 2:

Tim woke up once in the middle of the night and saw a giant anteater with wings hovering about his ceiling. He shrieked like a manly seven-year old girl at the sight, but as he scrambled for his Super Soaker 5000 hidden underneath his bed the anteater told him that the Salesmen and the Sleeper Knights are convening, the Red Queen has already finished construction on the Portal of Nightmares, and there is precious little time to locate the Paracelsus Helix before the End Spiral approaches. And then the flying anteater bestowed Tim with the Holy Horseshoe before departing into oblivion and memory.

Tim has no idea what it means either, but it gets him writing.

AMY LLOYD'S BIO:

Next to pap smears, writing bios may be Amy's least favorite activity.

"What do I say? What is so damn interesting about me anyway?" Born into a family of raccoons, Amy learned to dive into garbage cans and wrestle out discarded food without being bitten by rats. Once she discovered she was human, she still wore heavy black eyeliner, paying her respects to her first family. Amy has worked as an actress. Her work includes playing an assortment of crazy people with drinking problems. She also made her New York stage debut at the tender age of 22 playing a singing and dancing mouse. The New York Times singled her out in its review and said she was, in fact, a "swell mouse." So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

These days she plays the role of a schoolteacher, delivering enticing lessons about double-digit subtraction. She also created her own one-of-a-kind artwork collages and they are rented for film and television shoots.

Mostly, she cries herself to sleep at night waiting to wake up from the nightmare of her life. No-she's actually quite happy, flourishing in her creativity and thanking God every day the cops haven't found her, yet.

ANGEL LOGAN’S BIO:

After growing up in Wooster, Ohio and receiving a degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Akron, Angel Logan moved to New England, where she has made Waltham, Massachusetts her home with her husband Dana. She and Dana celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary, last year in May 2004. Angel considers Old Orchard Beach, Maine, where she and her husband vacation in the summer, to be her "home away from home." Angel visits often throughout the year and has written many of the poems in Wings of an Angel during her visits. She has found inspiration from the ocean of Old Orchard Beach, as well as from her many friends that reside there, support and believe in her.

As a musician also, Angel chose to focus her musical talent on a self-taught career in live sound engineering for over a decade (1992-2003). Along with her passion for music, she had the desire to start her own wedding business, Angelbells Wedding Consulting, which she has owned and operated for six years. Although Angel does intend to maintain her wedding business, she has also chosen to operate it on a smaller level, enabling her to focus primarily on her writing career.

As if that wasn't enough, Angel's love for writing keeps her with pen-in-hand, as she works toward the completion of her first fictional novel, which she plans to publish in the near future. Angel continues to write poetry while working on her novel and has plans to publish a second volume of Wings of an Angel, after her novel has been released.

Angel also volunteers her time and efforts, as a Staff Member of the Pvt. Charles J. Shutt Detachment Marine Corps League in Watertown, Massachusetts and acts as a liaison between the Shutt Detachment and the US Marine Corps Recruiting Station of Waltham, Massachusetts.

CAROL PENN-ROMINE’S BIO:

Carol Penn-Romine is a native of rural Tennessee now living as an expat in Los Angeles with her husband, Andy, and three cats who pussy whip them unmercifully. She writes, she travels, she slithers on her belly like a lizard . . . no, wait, that's Karl Rove. She was born with an intense wanderlust that resulted in her mother having to

dress her in red so the little darling could be found wherever she roamed on the farm or toward the area hamlets. On her grown-up adventures, she loves taking the back roads, eating with the locals

and staying away from the tourists and their magnets.

Carol believes in signs, especially "stop," "yield,"

"beware of dog," and "deaf children playing." She still takes it as a sign that she came to a fork in the road-literally. She once found a lovely fork that was obviously stolen from the nice neighborhood where she was swilling overpriced coffee. The fork had been run over by a car and was scratched and bent, but nonetheless, it was a nice, expensive gold fork . . . and it was in the road. It's now on her desk, to remind her of her own personal fork in the

road. Shortly thereafter, she quit the security of a boring job editing a beauty magazine and earned a Le Cordon Bleu degree so that she could shift the focus of her writing and travel to food. Now, in

addition to writing, she runs a culinary adventuring outfit called Tour de Forks.

NATHANIEL SHOCKEY’S BIO:

I was raised in the Northeastern suburbs of Philadelphia. For the larger portion of my life I studied music and was classically trained on the violin and the piano. I majored in music at Philadelphia Biblical University before taking a year off and subsequently transferring to Seattle Pacific University two summers ago. Now I am a senior, finally, and will graduate with a degree in English Literature in June of 2006. I write for the school paper, and last year I rowed for the crew team. Most of my time is spent reading, writing, or talking to my sexy and loving girlfriend, Katey, who currently resides in Los Angeles. I also sing in the University Presbyterian Church Choir.

I am a severe sports fan, having been raised in a city where the teams with which you identify are more important than owning property. I also enjoy the occasional cigar and sporadic nights of wine-sipping with friends. “Sipping” is a loose term in Seattle.

MITCH WYATT’S BIO:

Mitch Wyatt is a college graduate who greatly enjoys speaking about himself in the third person.  He is currently trying to find a way to go back to grad school and make money burst into existence Ex Nihlio since it certainly doesn't come any other way with a degree in English. Mitch also holds the unwavering delusion that one day he will be a published fiction writer of some kind, and then jump out the window and fly through the air, followed by a trip into space, which he will survive, sans space ship.

He believes these things despite the Laws of Common Sense, Gravity, and Air Pressure respectively.

Mitch is also looking for an artist since he has an
idea/part of a script for a fantasy web comic.  Email him at

Palmer Avery’s Bio:

Palmer Avery broke his nose during childbirth and it's been downhill ever since. His first job was as a stuntman in his friends' novels but the money was no good. He made a killing in the dotcom boom, but after the late-nineties crash turned to piracy. Piracy has franchises just like anything else, and Avery was affiliated with the Pastiche Pirate Co. headquartered in Oakland, CA. On July 8th, 2000, he realized that the sexiest line in cinema history was delivered by Phoebe Cates in Fast Times at Ridgemont High: "He's no high school boy." Palmer Avery quit piracy and is now an independent filmmaker living in Seattle, WA.

Steve Barker’s Bio:

Steve Barker lives and writes in Seattle where he is an editor for Letter X Magazine (http://www.letterXmag.com) and when it rains from the ground up (foundationforthearts.org). Neither of those jobs pays his rent so he also delivers pizza and appreciates tips. Barker is also a member of the band MAXNAR, which can be heard in dark basements after all the bars have closed. More of Steve Barker's writing can be found at www.write2die.com.

Larissa Bernardes’ Bio:

Larissa Bernardes blossomed into a post-colonial literary decade. She was born in Brazil and raised in New York to then shine in hurricane Miami. The earliest memory she has is jumping over walls to obtain ice after Hurricane Andrew. She spent over a month without electricity and taking cold showers; of course, this is a bit of sensationalistic history in lieu of recent events.

Larissa Bernardes attended classes at FIU where she obtained an intense distaste for authority of any kind despite her middle-class upbringing. She, at first, wanted to become a professor of literature. Yet, when the you- know-what-hit the fan, she ran to her nearest corporate job: a bank. She is currently employed at SunTrust (if you live in the South, Don't do it!!!) where she is constantly humiliated and cursed at. Perhaps, this provides the inspiration for her to write at night. Perhaps, we have all become corporate sell-outs. However, when she admits when she is feeling especially base, she thinks of every refund she has given against the bank and feels glad. She gives away money that is not hers. She is the female Robin Hood. Want a NSF refund? Call her at SunTrust.

Bernardes also drinks too much wine and feels glad about it. She knows life is good because she will always be happy with a pencil in hand. Plus, she has a fat and cute cat and lives with her human other half. She has often stated, "People need people and this is good. I write because needing others is good."

Dan Berthiaume’s BIO:

Dan Berthiaume is a business journalist who has plenty of spare time to dream up stories during his ridiculously long commute from Massachusetts' North Shore to the Boston suburbs. He witnessed the dotcom boom first-hand and believe him, it was even more outrageous than anything in "IPO." Having been a committed fan of the Red Sox and Patriots during the dark days of the 80s and 90s, Dan Berthiaume has earned the right to gloat over their success.

Mark Blickley’s BIO:

Mark Blickley (Blick) currently resides in a Long Beach, New York rental unit that offers a partial ocean front view. He is a slightly obese, unemployed English professor and a candidate for various adjunct teaching positions within the Tri-State area. A gifted writer and author of the cult classic confessional, I’m Not Paranoid Because My Fears Are Real, Mr. Blickley, who suffers from ADHD, has recently increased his Concerta medication dosage by 50 percent and is looking forward to a much more prolific and professionally satisfying career in the literary arts.

Mr. Blickley was married this past August 28th at the Expediated 5-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel at Lake Las Vegas in Nevada. Vows were exchanged at a lakeside ceremony, despite temperatures reaching 119 degrees; liquid refreshments were provided as per the online deluxe honeymoon package. MGM Grand Hotel headliner Rev. Johnny “Elvis Has Not Left the Building” Dalloo officiated, ably assisted by Caesar’s Palace star attraction, Rabbi Myrtle “The Siren of Somnolism” Hootus.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. Blickley, caught up in the passion of the moment, began to somersault in the nude and at the wedding reception was reported to have done some unusual things with eggs.

Paul Brewster’s Bio:

I am a bargain hunter, which doesn’t mean that I’m cheap, far from it. But my motto is why pay retail if you don’t have to? On the other hand, if you are spending way too much time looking for the golden egg at let’s say half off, and it’s no where to be found, then if it’s something that you want, then go ahead and bite the bullet. That’s where the art of bargain hunting comes in. It’s the balance between time spent in relation to product acquired.

Balance is something that comes naturally for me, simply because I am a middle child. We are the natural mediators of the world. We keep the world in check, such as a Libra would do. Now if you have a middle child that’s a Libra, then I guess you’ve got one kick ass balancing act. At least on paper, but we all know that just because it looks good on paper, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s good in bed.

I love being a writer and although the subject matter that I write about may appear, on the surface, far from love and happiness, it does however have its place within that realm. It’s not always lollipops and rainbows, unless you’re in OZ, and seriously who wants to hang out there? Unless you’re a Judy Garland or America fan. Anyone?

Bryan Clark’s Bio:

BRYAN CLARK is a former theatrical stage manager, now a stay-at-home dad.  His erotic play, "First Party," was produced by Firecracker Productions at the Slipper Room in August 2005, and his hallucinatory poem "2:01 A.M. . . . 6:50 A.M." can currently be seen in the "Dreams" edition of Poet'sTea.com.

Alex Gundy’s Bio:

WINNER OF HUMDINGER'S BLOODY ROGER PIRATE STORY CONTEST!

Hello, this is Al. I wrote my first novel in 2nd grade, with my friend Josh Meltzer, and I've struggled with formal education ever since. I became infatuated with pirates at the age of 14, and, instead of going to class, I wrote a series of novels about the English privateer enterprise Coral Nerve. By my fourth year of high school, I decided to revive the comic strip I started when I was 8. And though I haven't posted a strip for a while, "Elo and Anson" can still be seen on
http://gundy.irulethe.net. Currently, as a gainfully employed twenty-something, I serve fancy coffee concoctions to a bunch of suburbanites I hate with a passion. I'd like to express my warm thanks for the opportunity to share the story of Luc Le Reut with fellow buccaneers.

Verdena Gardner’s Bio:

When I was a kid I used to look out at newfallen snow and I always wanted to touch it without leaving any indication that I had been there. My yearning to make contact with a smooth horizon, like it could somehow stay perfect forever, stayed with me. But with me around, it could never be. I always left the snow stained one way or another, with the mud stuck to the ridges of my boots as I stomped clumsily to the edge."

I like to get inspiration from nature; I figure it’s bigger than me so it seems a perfect place to bear the weight of my metaphorical commentary on my emotional state or the usual, a romantic condition.

Tom Gleason’s Bio:

Currently I feel like a particle converting to a wave and upon further inspection I see I'm invisible and invariably indivisible yet imagine inversely and while meandering within myself and after long passive pondering I think I'm an idea searching for an empty page or possibly a subtext seeking validation and as I dive into the ink I become part of the meaning of the story and I flow with the passion to encompass the vibe and embody the gist and as I sit alone and wonder silently I begin to remember vaguely the unity, the energy, reality and someone called me.

Chris Goebel’s Bio 2:

Chris Goebel laughs at strange things, such as Angus Oblong’s Stupid Betsy who stuck marbles up her butt. Perhaps I find that funny because once, when I was a child watching a movie at the theater, I pushed a plastic red holly berry up my nose to see if it would fit and it would. But it wouldn’t unfit. I wrestled with the problem until my mother noticed tears over my hands from the monstrous battle I held with my nostril. Oh, it didn’t hurt. I just couldn’t imagine what life would be like with a plastic holly berry stuck up my nose. Mother couldn’t imagine why in the hell I’d put it there in the first place. Maybe that’s why I’m not into nose rings. Maybe that’s why I think Stupid Betsy is funny. Do we find things funny that relate to our experiences and nothing else? Nah. I find cows talking funny and never saw one talk. Yet.

Many writers ask me what I write and it’s virtually anything, any genre. I don’t write erotica for publication or publish others’ erotica (Humdinger’s focus is on literary, thinking fiction, not bathroom and bedroom action), but when writing, I get carried away sometimes and let the sex scene continue for pages and pages and then delete it. Ah, the power of the finger. Truly, what isn’t said is sometimes more powerful. If that weren’t the truth, then lingerie wouldn’t sell.

Literary agents aren’t fond of multi-genre authors. Imagine the work entailed in working with multiple publishers and promoting in different media for specific demographics. Worse, there are few literary agents who specialize in Science Fiction and Fantasy, or, horrors!, Science Fiction/Fantasy (a combination of both). What’s so frightening about that? You know what I think? I think it’s because they’re afraid that we’ll develop grasping and dangerous cult fans like Trekkies (Star Trek fans) who will learn to speak the languages we create and then the world won’t speak English anymore, but Klingon or Elvish. How’s that for a barn door buster?

rebecca wiles away her time meandering, apple-eating and rhapsodizing over girls who are brave and boys who are cruel. but such is life. she makes frequent pilgrimages to east williamsburg dens of debauchery and lower east side pizza parlors full of dumb kids and kids in trench coats and kids who dont care for easy thrills and mediocre inspiration. sometimes she goes to school. she is obsessed with new york and running around thinking she's going to find something exciting.

Joshua Izenberg’s Bio:

Joshua Izenberg can shake his eyeballs on command. He has been to the Northernmost city in the world and has driven Danny DeVito to dive, frightened, beneath the Pacific surf to escape his merciless wit—and all before the age of 22. Originally from Michigan, Joshua now lives in Portland, Oregon.

Mike Marino’s Bio:

Mike Marino has made his "roadhead" bones, and enjoys nothing better than a greasy, unfolded Rand McRoadie roadmap on the front seat of the car. Top it off with a bag of beef jerky, some smoked whitefish from Northern Michigan and a cream soda to wash it all down with as the steel belts play an asphalt concerto and you have one happy roadhead camper. Mike is also the undisputed Roadhead Historian of Route 66 and the King of Roadside Kitsch and Culture!

Originally a product of the Motor City, (Detroit, Michigan), Mike Marino left the Rustbest of America at the age of 15, traveling westward by hitch hiking along Steinbeck’s famed Mother Road, Route 66, before the "commemorative" signs and back when it actually was Route 66!

Later, Mike said "Aloha" to Hawaii, and lived the life of a beach bum in a treehouse on the grass skirt shores of Honolulu for a year and half. Eventually he came back to the mainland and wound up living for a year on the steamy, seamy streets of the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.

He eventually cruised up the California coast to settle into the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, well before the fashionable "Summer of Love". After the Death of Hip, he moved his counter culture lifestyle to the "beat" streets in his 2nd floor walkup in North Beach in San Francisco.

After 10 years of living on the road, Mike returned to the Motor City, and began writing. Greasepaint started to flow in his bloodstream, and he turned his attention to social issues and politics as parody and satire as a playwright. He's also one of the far-out founding fathers of the legendary and politically incorrect and irreverent Experimental Theater Workshop in Detroit, Michigan. His gift of verbal sparring worked in his favor and he became a ten decibel rock n' roll radio disc jockey in Detroit, Michigan and San Francisco, California. In San Francisco, where he and his gang of radio radicals produced San Francisco's "Blue Suede Cruise Rock n' Roll Radio Show"

Today, Mike Marino is a freelance writer living with altitude and attitude in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. He writes for a variety of magazines around the globe on American Pop Culture, Travel, Counter Culture, Rants and Rambles.

Mike has just completed his second and third books on pop culture and is now working on his fourth book. He's making a return to live theater and working on two scripts for bio-plays that deal with the life and times of Jack Kerouac, and on Jerry Garcia. Both projects in conjunction with a young avant garde theater group of much energy and synergy on the West Coast. He's also working on a sci-fi screenplay called "Martians Suck" with filmmakers in Ann Arbor, Michigan and a theatrical mockumentary on pop culture called: "Amsterdam: The Musical."

He enjoys Hawaiian shirts, classic cars, a good Hemmingway cigar, Corona beer, hiking and backpacking and rummaging through flea markets and auto junkyards, spending his spare time touring hubcaps and other auto parts into works of low brow art for the literati and the illiterati!

He is also passionate about photography and collects fuzzy dice, Hula Dashboard Ornaments and his die-cast classic car collection now numbers in excess of 500!!

Mona Martin’s Bio:

I was born and raised the only child in Portland Oregon in 1962, graduated high school in 1981, been married twice and have four wonderful children and one PERFECT grand daughter, who is my guardian angel ... bless her li'l soul.

Christopher Mulrooney’s Bio:

Christopher Mulrooney has written poems and translations in The Drunken Boat, Burning Leaf, Segue, Chiron Review, Crate, and Voices Israel, Criticism in Parameter, The Film Journal, and Pyramid, and a volume of poetry called notebook and sheaves.

Bette O’Callaghan’s Bio:

Bette O'Callaghan, a dichotomy of designer clothes accessorised with skulls. She fought her way down from the lap of luxury, in America, to the squalor of one room in South London, always evincing the worst possible judgment along the way. Indeed, her skills at self-delusion and general lassitude are world class as is her cement streak of cynicism. Fifty nine years of ranting, raving and howling at the world to go away have led her to the stage as the perfect outlet in which to reach out and throttle her audience, assuaging her need for total domination. Expect the worst and you will be rewarded with intriguing stories of a wasted life and encouraged to live for yourself. AND NOW . . .  the bitch is back in the USA (Austin,Texas) but this time she's got puppies.

Gary Gray's Bio:

My mom gave birth to me in Tennessee.
I enjoy gravy on my biscuits and a splash of crème in my coffee.
I enjoy long walks along crowded and polluted streets.
I once wrote a poem on a Burger King napkin,
But I threw it away 'cause the poem didn't mean anything.
I rode a pink paper Mache unicorn.
When I went to Guam, I went to the Hard Rock Cafe, but I didn't go inside.
I like to shop for hemp bracelets, but I don't own one.
Looking at the sun hurts my eyes, so I like to look at the moon.
But staring at the moon is not safe when I'm driving.

Susan Stewart’s Bio:

Try as she might, Susan Stewart is a writer who finds few
who understand what the hell she's talking about. Or
writing about, to be more exact. Think deep. Think out of
the proverbial box. Better yet, don't think at all. Just
take it as it comes, which is the way she does. One line,
one verse, one obscure title at a time. A lot like the OPI
nail polish names, which she has been known to weave into a
poem or short story to the delight of her manicurist.

Dan Sullivan’s Bio:

Dan Sullivan is a native of New England, traveling all over the area, living in artificial caves designed for zoos and children's parks. Along with writing, he enjoys music, skyscrapers and volleyball. He is the only child of Jake and Tracy Sullivan. Jake drives a street sweeper and Tracy sews signs for Laundromats.

After graduating high school,Dan worked part time building boats, but had to give this up after discovering an allergy to wood polish, a product he used quite often while building sea crafts. He plans on continuing his traveling, maybe venturing as far as Pennsylvania (though a fear of states that end with
the letter A may hinder this excursion).

 Chris Goebel:

I have a theory that all problems stem from hormones and pollen. Naturally, I eat meat and I garden, which could be the source of my problems. I also won't kill ants, unless they're trekking across my kitchen counter and then I wipe them out, but I feel very, very sorry for it.

I love the Eiffel Tower, though I've never seen it in person; my desire to have a mass-produced plastic replica of it that was actually purchased in the same city is overwhelming. I'm not sure why I'm so obsessed with the Eiffel Tower, but it could be because it looks climbable.

In most cases, I think people falling down are hilarious, unless they are hurt. Then, I quietly leave the room and laugh with abandon.

Meet the Black Dragon in October's issue of Humdinger! October 1st.

                       Tim Li:

When he was a child, Tim discovered his destiny in a fortune cookie. It came to him
immediately after he broke open the sweet morsel of divination: on a tiny slip of paper,
written in glaring blue ink, were the words, "Name five healthy foods." Since then, he has lived as an experienced lover, an intrepid hero and a sinister warlord, among other
occupations.

The high point of his life was when he discovered the secret of immortality. For a while, he dreamed of being a dark and hungry god, roaming about the corners of the world,
preying on the blood of the innocent, but then he changed his mind and stayed in Texas.

Sheloman Byrd:

In my 24 years of watching candles drip, I've been astonished to know that limbs can grow, but certain tolerance does not. I'm an optimist and a realist, which should make me a pessimist, but it doesn't due to a complete lack of insanity. I like macaroni and cheese, reading and showers in the California heat. I hope for a better tomorrow and from the opening sunrise to the dying star, my pen will never rest. Thanks for letting me have your eyes and mind for a while.

Richard A. Becker is a former college radio DJ, a current producer of old-fashioned burlesque shows, the writer of a spec commercial featuring a fainting sheep, and has mysterious connections with the up-and-coming Los Angeles-based horror host, Doctor

strangely enough -- genuinely loves L.A., warts and all. Richard's very long short story, "The Return of Cthadron," will soon be published in the e-anthology Daikaiju 2 (see below).

The week before school started, I suddenly decided to get that tattoo I wanted. It's on my back and it really hurt, but I love it now. I'm 53 years old and I live with a man 7 years younger than myself.  We're not married. My students call me a good weird, whatever that means. I guess if I told you I love teaching 10th graders to write, etc. you might think I was a little nutty too. I kind of act like them. I think it rubbed off. Oh, I'm Italian and I seriously talk with my hands...
